One of my favourite past times is checking out the new local eatery. This rang true with my recent visit to the New Local Eatery over at Hindmarsh. Located next door to the Entertainment Centre, this place offers a variety of international flavours in the form of small plates, mains and desserts. I was also pleased to see they had a cheaper lunch menu for people on the go.
The decor here is modern and sophisticated with artwork from Australian artist Stewart MacFarlane. The dining space currently seats over 40, however that will increase once the basement space opens up.
For lunch, I ordered the New Local Falafel, Parsley Salad and Hummus. The dish came out after a 15 minute wait and was nicely presented. My first impression of the dish was that the parsley salad was a tabouleh, and all the elements of this dish could be easily found at your local Middle Eastern/Greek take away.
The falafel was nice and crunchy on the outside, and fluffy and herby within. The falafel by itself was a tad on the salty side, but when combined with the other ingredients, worked well. The parsley salad was light and refreshing, while the hummus was nutty with a semi-creamy consistency. The dish was something I was already familiar with, and to their credit, fairly well executed.
The staff were friendly and the service was good. The atmosphere was relaxed, although I was the only customer at the time of visit. As far as pricing goes, it’s fairly average with the lunch time dishes all costing $14. Tapas dishes start from $7, mains $24 and dessert $14.
The use of fresh, quality ingredients is expected everywhere I go, but the New Local Eatery incorporates them into their dishes better than most places.
