I’ve heard so many good things about Luigi Delicatessen, I thought it was about time I paid them a visit. Located close to the corner of Flinders and Pulteney Streets, the food here is a combination of Mediterranean and healthy options. From salads to pastas, soups, antipasto, freshly squeezed juices and coffee, this is an ideal place to visit at any time of the day.
The reason I was here today was to check out their pasta dishes. To start off proceedings, I was served some Garlic Bread. The bread was nice and crusty with just the right amount of butter, parsley and garlic applied. Perfect on its own or ideal to mop up the sauce from your pasta dish.
The first pasta dish was the Crab Spaghetti. For an entree, the serving size was decent as was the presentation. The sauce was rich with a lovely thick consistency, and not too overpowering. The crab meat was generously applied and there wasn’t a crab shell in sight. The flavours were well balanced and the dish was executed to perfection.
The Spaghetti Puttanesca was just as good as the previous pasta dish. Like most of the pasta dishes, it’s the use of 3 or 4 ingredients that create the dish. In this case, it was perfect blend of olives, capers and anchovies. The best puttanesca I’ve had by far.
I’ve never met a more genuine and friendly guy than Luigi. He introduces himself, shakes your hand and instantly creates rapport. Combine that with their high quality pasta dishes and comfortable surrounds, and I can see why people keep on flocking back to this place. Entree sized pasta dishes are just under the $14 mark while the mains are under $19. This place is great, and I can’t believe I haven’t visited sooner.
