Sammy’s On The Marina – VIP Media and Influencer Event

It’s always nice to take a walk down the Marina Pier in Glenelg, even at this time of year where the sunset sings its favourite winter song. Luck was on our side with the beautiful weather this weekend in Adelaide. 16° with a clear blue sky, chilly but firey sunset and a mild breeze to give you that feeling of relaxation. It’s just the perfect occasion to celebrate the most popular and iconic seafood restaurant in South Australia, Sammy’s on the Marina. The restaurant is known for its locally sourced, high quality seafood and from the night’s event, we couldn’t agree more.

Greeted with a glass of champagne we took it to the balcony upstairs and had a wonderful time enjoying the glorious sun set right before our eyes. The food started to come out after everyone had the chance to mix and mingle. At Sammy’s, the menu is not taken lightly which is evident in their multiple awards for a high-quality seafood restaurant.

We were treated to a taste of Smoked Salmon on cucumber for an appetizer, followed by:

A delicious selection of Oysters; Lemon thyme beer battered oysters, oysters Kilpatrick, caviar oysters, chilli balsamic oysters with sesame seaweed salad, and of course the classic fresh oysters with lemon. Surprisingly, I fell in love with the sesame seaweed oysters. First time tasting it and I was very impressed on how well this combination worked.

We also tried their Trio Dip (beetroot, cheese and sundried tomato) served with lightly toasted pita bread. The cheese dip was a nice touch considering its not often heard of in appetizers. Don’t forget the super delicious garlic bread which was full of flavor and featured a crunchy crust that’s soft on the inside. A classic, but definitely a favourite that everyone enjoyed on the night. You must order this when you are at Sammy’s.

The main courses started to come out and we were lucky there was plenty for everyone to have a bite of everything.

The Garlic Prawns were served with pilaf rice and generous sauce. This is a good go-to for an a la carte main. We also had the Spiced Buttermilk Barramundi served with nutritious lentils and papadum, what a satisfying main that was.

The Scallops Ceviche with fresh ginger and yuzu dressing was beautifully presented next to a bucket of fresh SA King Prawns with special homemade sauce.

Let’s not forget the Boston Bay Mussel Pot, served with crispy bread you get two choices of either the laksa sauce or tomato and basil if you like something less creamy. Nobody will judge you for using your fingers to eat your seashell dishes at this restaurant. I know I won’t because this is the type of culinary where you’ve just got to dig in and enjoy the experience.

My favourite part of the night was when they delivered the Deluxe Platter to the table. It has literally everything seafood plus fries and some green vegetables. For winter, the crabs are in season so they brought out a massive Northern Territory mud crab along with lightly seared scallops, two types of salt and pepper calamari and crumbed calamari, skewered prawns, fresh SA King prawns, and last but not least the famous Moreton Bay bugs. In the warmer days to keep the quality up to standard, they will start introducing the lobster instead of the crab into the deluxe platter so if you are a crab lover this is the best time to enjoy it at Sammy’s. It’s fresh, it’s meaty and it’s got two flavour options that you can choose from; chilli sauce or garlic sauce. I’d personally recommend the chilli sauce, even if you can’t really handle the spice, the heat is perfect to accommodate everyone’s palate during the colder months.

The multi award winning Sammy’s on the Marina has collaborated with a few excellent vineyard vendors such as Seppeltsfield and the Wilson Vineyard in the past. They are now getting ready to work with the prestigious Hentley Farm for the degustation menu and to keep everyone on their toes, Hentley Farm will be bringing their premium wines called the Beauty and the Beast for the night of August, 9th 2019 only at Sammy’s.
