Sussex Hotel

Adelaide Food Central were invited to dine at the newly renovated Sussex Hotel. I have lived across from here all my life and have been waiting for someone to bring it to life. They have certainly done this with their renovations, menu and cocktail list.

We started with the share plate which is a great option if you can’t choose from all the delicious starters. We had garlic bread, crispy chicken strips, tuna ceviche, baked filo parcels and spring rolls. Lots of diversity and yummy things to pick on while you wait for your main meal.

We also had a generous serving of buffalo wings which had just the right amount of crisp and spice. They offer 50c wings all day Wednesdays, which is definitely worth hitting up!

For our mains, we decided on the salmon special which was chargrilled to perfection with a delicious mushroom sauce and cauliflower side. But the roasted lamb backstrap was the stand out with a creamy mash and red wine jus. The meat was cooked beautifully!

We finished off the night with a couple of cocktails from their new ‘Wellness Cocktail’ menu including an Acai BlackBerry Mojito. I’m not sure how much of a superfood this was but it certainly tasted delicious! They are also happy to make any traditional cocktail not advertised, but ask and they will deliver, as they did with our espresso martini.

Overall we had a great night, the staff were very accommodating and the atmosphere was better than it’s been in years. The food was great and portion sizes very generous. Don’t let their old reputation put you off, the Sussex is now a re-vitalised pub great for any age!
