Jamaica Blue – Adelaide

If Jamaica Blue in the Myer Centre isn’t the first place that comes to mind when you’re considering a great cup of coffee or a flavourful meal, it’s time to think again!

Located a quick escalator ride up from the Rundle Mall entrance into the Myer Centre sits the bright and inviting Jamaica Blue. This is a space that has all the convenience of being in a shopping centre, but once you step foot through the entrance, it feels like you’re in a trendy cafe sitting on a tranquil side street somewhere out of the way.

The staff are warm and friendly, making you feel like you’re having a meal served by new friends, and the menu is robust enough to satisfy breakfast lovers, lunch goers or dinner patrons alike.

If you do have time for a casual breakfast or brunch, you must try the pancakes! Growing up, this was my favourite food. Probably because my mom has a secret recipe for the fluffiest pancakes you’ll ever taste as well as a homemade, decadent syrup (to say I was pancake spoiled when I was young would be an understatement).

Vanilla Pancakes with Strawberries & Maple Syrup

My standards are pretty high when it comes to pancakes and Jamaica Blue more than meets them! The Strawberry & Maple Vanilla Pancakes are just sweet enough to feel like a treat, balanced with a lightness to the cake which brings me right back to my mom’s kitchen.

If you’re not into sweet eats in the early morning, worry not! Jamaica Blue has you covered.

Vegetarian Breakfast with Poached Eggs

Two slices of crusty bread toasted beautifully with a tower of zingy tomato, rich haloumi, savoury mushrooms and delicious pesto, are topped with two poached eggs to get you off to a healthy (and yummy) start!

Now that the most important meal of the day is covered, let’s talk their mouth watering lunch menu!

Classic Fish & Chips

Battered to perfection and lightly fried, the fish they served was flakey and fresh. Dipped in a tangy tartare sauce to add a little extra richness and paired with golden french fries, you really can’t go wrong with this classic!

Vintage Ground Beef Burger

Now, I’ll be honest here. I don’t eat meat. So, this one I’m reviewing based on the opinion of my trusty partner whom I brought this tricked out burger home to. The bacon and cheddar cheese added a richness to your palate, while the aioli, tomato, red onion and pickle helped to cut through some of the decadence. But the real star of this dish was the ground beef patty. Seasoned to perfection and “Oooh, juicy”, as paraphrased from my meat eating partner in crime. Hugged with a fluffy brioche bun and paired with some freshly cooked french fries, I can see why this is such a fan favourite.

Salt & Pepper Calamari Salad

Before I get to the calamari, let me just say that anytime a salad turns out to be noodles, I’m pretty freaking happy! The fresh veggies and Asian inspired noodle salad is such a brilliant companion to hot and crispy calamari. Seasoned with classic salt and pepper, this is a great dish for sharing or one to be tackled by a hungry seafood lover.

And can we talk about the coffee for a minute? Smooth and roasty, if you’re on the go and grabbing a quick cup and a cake, this is the place to swing by!

I’m so glad I was introduced to Myer Centre’s Jamaica Blue and I can’t recommend more that you pop in and check this charming space out. Whether you’re grabbing a coffee on the go or having a sit down meal with a friend or two, the food and atmosphere will leave a lasting impression that’ll have you coming back for more.
