The Holdy – New Summer Menu Launch

The Holdy, Glenelg’s food and drinks gem has released its brand new summer menu.

The wonderfully located hotel has undergone a makeover, offering up superb new menus and fresh summer drinks inspired by the area’s laid back beach vibe, following new ownership from Star Hotels in July this year.

Fusing pub favourites with international flavours, the new menu is truly a unique culinary experience.

The Holdy Venue Manager, Jeff Owens, said, “We wanted to inject some character into the menu. It’s a fun and interesting celebration of all Australian cultures, it all comes together and sings on the plate!”

Acclaimed Chef, Hayley Mass, is the driver behind The Holdy’s new direction and inspired menu and is all about fusing different multicultural flavours with different Australian tastes.

Having travelled, worked and eaten all over the world, Hayley brings a passion for flavour, experimentation and unique tasting sensations to her role as Head Chef.

“The new menu is about taking risks and embracing diverse global tastes”, Hayley said.

At the menu launch, ‘Let’s Get Nauti’, the first dish we received was the Holdy Tasting Plate Entree, with Prosciutto, Beetroot and Spicy Capsicum Dips, Flatbread, Olives, Peppers, Double Smoked Ham and Pickles.

This lovely selection of fresh and local produce had guests coming back again for more, and got us truly excited about the dishes to come on the new summer menu.

For Round One of the main course dishes, we were served a refreshing Vietnamese Beef Salad, a Grilled Haloumi and Vege Salad and a Porchetta Pig Pizza. These dishes were paired with Koonunga Hill Autumn Riesling.

The salads were fresh and light, perfect for a hot summer day, and the added vinaigrette on the Haloumi dish added a sweet tang to the soft cheese. The Pizza dish also had an added spice to it but a lovely mix of flavours and ingredients to cool your palate and make you want to keep coming back for more.

Round Two of the main course, we were served succulent Pan Seared Lamb Cutlets, Crispy Skin Duck and Sweet Potato Fries. These were paired with Fickle Mistress Pinot Noir.

The perfectly cooked lamb was beautifully paired with a tomato based dressing and roasted potatoes, while the duck, having been slow cooked for eight hours, was deliciously tender and falling off the bone. The Sweet Potato Fries were seasoned well and paired with a sweet aioli that was good enough to devour with the entire dish.

The two dessert disses were last; A New York Cheesecake and a Coconut and Lime Panacotta. These were served with Penfolds Reserve Port.

The two dishes were very cool and refreshing, just perfect for the summer weather. The smooth Cheesecake was paired with sweet caramel and popcorn while the coconut flavour of the Panacotta stood out with a hit of citrus with the added sweetness of fresh strawberries on the side.

All the new dishes were excitingly flavourful and you could taste the different culturally inspired spices and dressings and ingredients that complimented each dish; with flavours from Asia, Mexico, Spain, Greece, Australia and more, all perfectly combined together to creat something special.

The new menu also caters for Vegan, Vegetarian and Gluten Free guests, and is open for those who want to come for a sit down meal or even just a snack.

The Holdy’s latest food offerings also present a welcome new surprise – the addition of a tasty brunch menu. With delicious crowd favourites like Smashed Avocado, Belgian Waffles and Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict, The Holdy is quickly becoming Adelaide’s favourite beach-side breakfast spot on the weekend.

The Holdy also provides the perfect location for functions. The venue now incorporates a specific functions space, in addition to a number of indoor and outdoor areas to choose from, ensuring guests find the perfect setting for their event.

With flavoursome food, ice cold cocktails, relaxed tunes and a cheeky crew, The Holdy is set to be Adelaide’s favourite watering hole this Summer.
