Located in the trendy suburb of Norwood, Republic is a modern and exciting pub known for having the best outdoor beer garden in Australia. It also has a sleek and stylish interior, great entertainment lineups and a constantly evolving food and beverage offering. As we move into the cooler months, Republic have launched a new Autumn menu. Adelaide Food Central was invited to sample some of those dishes, which were provided free of charge.
For starters, I had the Loaded Potato Skins which consisted of cheese, sour cream, chives and spicy salsa. The presentation of the dish was better than expected with nice layers of melted cheese over the potato jackets. The dollop of sour cream and sprinkle of chopped chives was also a clever way to garnish. The salsa had a rich tomato sweetness with just that subtle hint of spiciness. This was balanced by the sourness of the cream.
Next was the Slow Roasted Rotisserie Lamb Salad which contained tomatoes, olives, feta, cucumber, watermelon and tzatziki. The salad contained generous amounts of well seasoned, lean morsels of lamb. The meat was tender and succulent, and was perfectly complimented by the thick, garlic flavoured tzatziki. The tomato, olives, feta and cucumber had all the hallmarks of a Greek salad, while the addition of watermelon, created a modern twist.
The main dish was the Wagyu Burger with cheddar, bacon, tomato, lettuce, ketchup, aioli and crispy onions. The presentation was perfect, and it almost looked too good to eat. The burger had good height and wrapping my mouth around this thing couldn’t be achieved. The beef patty was thick and had the same diameter as the bun. The meat was well seasoned and juicy, and you could taste the lovely smokey flavours with each bite. The cheddar cheese was nicely melted over the patty, and the vegetables were fresh and crisp. The bacon was crispy which is just the way I like it. The bun was nice and firm, and held all the ingredients in well.
The thing I love about Republic is the way they continually re-invent themselves while retaining the best they have to offer. The new Autumn menu is no different. Each dish was well presented and perfectly executed, and the serving sizes were surprisingly big. Combine that with the relaxed atmosphere and great service, and you’re on a winner every time.
I’m loving this new menu and look forward to trying out some of the other dishes on offer.
