I had the pleasure of dining with Poh Ling Yeow earlier this year with the opening of PappaRich in Adelaide. The MasterChef Australia runner up, TV celebrity chef and artist has followed up on her success at the Adelaide Showground Farmers Market and The Market Shed on Holland with a brand new stall at the Adelaide Central Markets.

Serving up breakfast and lunch Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the focus is on tasty dishes that use fresh local ingredients. Breakfast options include eggs, toast, pancakes and granola, while for lunch, there are plated dishes, sandwiches and pastries. Of course, you just have a sweet tooth, there is a selection of sweet treats behind the cabinet. Everything is freshly made in house so you can be assured the quality is there.

For lunch, I had Scandinavian Smoked Salmon and Potato Salad. This dish is something I’d expect to eat in a Scandinavian country and was very delicious. The distinct mild and warm flavour of the dill matches perfectly with the smoky salmon. The chunks of potato were nice and firm and were complimented by the sour cream. The strength of the capers and the heat from the horseradish added good depth to the dish and brought all the elements together. A very light and delicious dish.

For dessert, I had the Chocolate Custard, Salted Caramel and Peanut Tart. This is a great combination of ingredients whichever way you look at it. The custard was silky smooth and yet rich and decadent. It matched perfectly with the salted caramel and the crunchy peanuts. All enclosed in a firm chocolate shell, it was a perfect way to end the meal.

We all know that Poh is talented behind the kitchen and with the opening of her new stall, people no longer have to wait till the weekend to dig into her delicious dishes. The breakfast options start at $8, and lunch $12, which is all very affordable for great quality dishes. Combine that with super friendly staff and pleasant surrounds, and you’re in for a enjoyable experience.

This is a place you need to check out. It’s worth it.
