It was only yesterday that I was having a conversation with a fellow Food Blogger about the lack of meatball variety in restaurants. Someone was probably listening in because the latest eatery, Meatballs & Co, opened the very next day.
Meatballs & Co is located amongst the hustle and bustle of Victoria Square, and is run by a father and son team. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, there are meatball offerings for any time of the day. Available until 11am, breakfast options are variations of classics and include the Benedict Balls, Florentine Balls or the Balls, Eggs and Toast.
For the rest of the day, the menu is like the “Subway” for meatballs. Customers can choose from meatballs on their own, with bread, with salad or in the form of sliders. There are 5 types of meatballs and 6 types of sauces, and in the case of subs or burgers, there are 3 types of cheese to choose from. If you play around with all the different combinations, every meal here can be totally unique.
Meatballs & Co is fully licensed and have a good selection of beer, wine, cocktails, spirits, and gin and tonics. I went for my favourite, the Espresso Martini. With house infused coffee vodka, a shot of espresso, Kahlua, creme de cacao and strega, topped with their house made averna cream, it’s the quality of the ingredients which make this drink so special.
For dinner, I had the Angus Beef Meatballs with a Chunky Tomato Sauce. With 4 meatballs to a serve, their size is considerably generous and will certainly satisfy. The meatballs are lean and well seasoned, and work perfectly with the rich tomato sauce.
Meatballs on their own can be a bit boring so there are 9 sides available to compliment your meal. I went for the Daily Cooked Greens which are just plain healthy.
The staff were really friendly and the service was exceptional. The atmosphere was relaxed with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. A serving of meatballs will set you back $14, and the sides $7 which combined is about the price you’d pay for a meal elsewhere. If you look at serving size and quality of ingredients, this place does represent good value for money, which is what people want these days.
Meatballs & Co are the new kid on the block and have all your meatball needs covered.
