It’s not everyday that I venture down south, but with work commitments in the area, I thought it was a good opportunity to check out some of the local businesses. Located only a few minutes away from where I had to be was the Victory Hotel, which is perched up high on Sellicks Hill. The establishment has plenty of space with indoor and outdoor dining areas, a verandah, a patio, a sportsbar, a beer garden and even an underground cellar. With plenty of parking for customers and magnificent views of the sea, the location is almost perfect.

Popping in for a quick lunch, I opted for their Pie Floater. The dish came out 15 minutes after ordering and was nicely presented. Not the typical pie floater that I had imagined but I thought the modern take was good enough. Inside the thick pastry was lean, well seasoned, chunks of beef. The meat was tender and succulent, and simply fell apart. It was swimming in a thick rich gravy which was absolutely delicious. The mashed potato was creamy, soft and delicate, and the chips were crunchy on the outside and fluffy in the centre. The gravy had a lovely smokey flavour which combined all the ingredients well.
The staff were friendly and the service was good. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing was reasonable. Their normal menu consists of starters, wood oven pizzas, steaks, seafood dishes, mains and dessert which start from $5.90 for Garlic Bread to $49.90 for their 2kg Graziers Rump. Like all good places, they also have a cheaper lunch menu. The Pie Floater that I had was part of their specials and set me back $9.90.
The Victory Hotel is a place I’ll definitely come back to if I’m in the area.
