You can usually tell how good a place is by how busy it is. I’ve yet to see an empty table at Chianti every time I’ve walked past, so I already knew the food was good. I was also a bit sceptical about coming here because it was fine dining. This meant smaller portions with an emphasis on presentation, rather that something that is satisfying.
The restaurant itself is located on the busy Hutt Street cafe precinct. The place is considerably spacious with plenty of seating both inside and out. The venue is classically decorated, with comfortable seating and cloth napkins to make you feel warm and cosy. The service here is exceptional, which is what you would expect from a fine dining establishment.
Looking at the menu, I thought the breakfast choices were limited, and with what was on offer, nothing I couldn’t make myself at home. Today, I ordered the Eggs Benedict. The meals came out after a 10 minute wait and all meals arrived at the same time. As expected, each meal was nicely presented.
The Eggs Benedict was delicious. One average sized muffin, cut in half, with leg ham, hollandaise sauce and a poached egg on each slice. The hollandaise sauce was smooth and creamy, although a bit darker in colour than normal. The ham was fresh and the egg was perfectly cooked. The muffin was lightly toasted, and the dish as whole was well executed.

A majority of the people in the group went for the Traditional Breakfast. The general consensus was that the bacon was too fatty and some were annoyed that butter wasn’t provided with the bread. We all agreed that the food was well cooked, but nothing really special, and certainly not worth the asking price. I probably wouldn’t come here again for breakfast, but I would like to experience the food they are better known for, that is, Italian food.
