Umay Turkish Kitchen

Adelaide is set to welcome a new Turkish dining destination, with Umay Turkish Kitchen bringing the rich culinary heritage of Anatolia to South Australia’s capital.

Named after Umay Ana, the ancient Turkic goddess associated with abundance, fertility and life, Umay celebrates generosity, belonging and the timeless tradition of gathering around the table.

Blending traditional Turkish recipes and cooking techniques with contemporary presentation and the finest South Australian produce, Umay promises a dining experience that honours its cultural roots while embracing the flavours of its new home.

A Celebration of Turkish Culinary Heritage

At the heart of Umay is a deep respect for Anatolia’s diverse food culture, where regional spices, time-honoured recipes and the art of sharing food have been passed down through generations.

Each dish will bring together authentic Turkish flavours and vibrant local ingredients, creating a menu that feels both familiar and fresh. With an emphasis on quality produce and thoughtful preparation, Umay aims to offer a contemporary interpretation of traditional Turkish cuisine.

The vision behind Umay Turkish Kitchen comes from founder Hikmet Tolotta, who grew up in Kastamonu, Türkiye. Having spent more than a decade sharing her passion for Turkish cuisine and culture across South Australia, Hikmet is now bringing that experience to a new dining venture.

Working alongside chef Eren Colakoglu, she hopes to give traditional Turkish cooking a fresh, elevated expression while preserving the warmth and authenticity that make it so special.

Weekend Turkish Breakfast

Weekends at Umay will begin with a special Turkish breakfast, featuring homemade favourites, traditional flavours and fresh South Australian produce.

Inspired by the generous Turkish breakfast table, the experience is designed for lingering over good food, sharing dishes and enjoying time together. Rather than simply grabbing a quick bite, guests can look forward to a relaxed morning centred on hospitality, connection and the pleasure of sharing a meal.

Umay Meyhane: Turkish Dining on Friday and Saturday Nights

As the weekend arrives, Umay will take on a different atmosphere with Umay Meyhane, operating on Friday and Saturday evenings.

A traditional meyhane is a place where people gather to enjoy mezes, conversation, music and the company of friends. At Umay, this tradition will inspire evenings where diners can slow down, share plates and enjoy the convivial spirit of Turkish hospitality.

Expect an atmosphere built around good food, music and meaningful connections, where conversations linger long after the meal begins.

More Than Just a Meal

For Umay, Turkish dining is about much more than what is served on the plate. It is about bringing people together, sharing stories, making memories and celebrating life.

Rooted in the legendary hospitality of Anatolia, the restaurant aims to create a warm and personal experience where heritage, culinary craftsmanship, music and community come together.

In Turkish culture, the table represents a place of connection — where friendships are formed, families reunite and stories are shared. It is this spirit that Umay hopes to bring to Adelaide.

With its combination of traditional Turkish flavours, South Australian produce, weekend breakfasts and lively meyhane evenings, Umay Turkish Kitchen is shaping up to be an exciting new addition to Adelaide’s dining scene.
