The festive season is in full swing and the Adelaide Central Market is overflowing with an abundance of fresh local produce, Christmas essentials and festive fare in preparation for its busiest trading period of the year. The Market will be open ten consecutive days from Tuesday 15 December.
Adelaide Central Market General Manager Jodie Kannane said Christmas at the Market was a highly anticipated and celebrated occasion for customers, with a huge range of fresh produce and house made favourites on offer.
“This is always a very special time at our Market, and after what’s been a very challenging year, it’s never been more important to shop and support local business this Christmas.
“Customers can expect to find everything they need this Christmas – our Market will be filled with local seafood, the best fresh produce, turkey’s, hams, locally grown cherries and house made goodies. We’re really making it easy for people to shop in the lead-up to Christmas with extended trading hours.”
“It’s also wonderful to be able to welcome our new traders Gewurzhaus, Skala Artisan Bakers and Angelakis Bros to their first Market Christmas.”
Angelakis Bros is anticipating a roaring trade at its new Market location, opening at Stall 6 on Thursday 17 December. Fellow fishmongers, Samtass Seafood and Cappo’s Fish Market are preparing for the biggest trade period of the year, with fresh local seafood including prawns, lobsters, whole fish, and oysters in high demand in the lead-up to Christmas. Lobsters will be more affordable this Christmas, with prices not seen in recent times. Angelakis Bros will open with
fresh South Australian lobster at $79.95 per kilo.
South Australian leg ham on the bone will be in abundance, with the only house smoker in Adelaide at O’Connell’s Meats, preparing 3 tonnes in the lead up to Christmas.
Alternative Christmas goodies will be available from around the Market including gluten free Christmas puddings, spelt fruit mince tarts and sustainable bon-bons from House of Health.
British fine food stall Palmer and Woolford is open at the Producer in Residence where traditional English fare like fruit cake and puddings can be found, along with their brand-new Christmas dinner pasty, made fresh daily with fresh turkey, Market veggies and cranberry sauce.
Fresh food producer Aubergine’s has expanded its stall in time for Christmas, offering a range of chocolate covered strawberries and seasonal fruits, in addition to its wide range of premium fruit and veg.
The Market will be supporting the community during the period, working with city-based charity Catherine House to contribute fresh produce for Christmas Day and meal packs for women living in their own accommodation. Charity partner Oz Harvest will also be returning with the Tree of Goodness in the Gouger dining area from 21 – 24 December, raising funds for South Australians in need.
The Adelaide Central Market is open every day in the week leading up to Christmas day from 15 December with first hour free parking. It will open from 6.00am on Christmas Eve, Thursday 24 December.
Shoppers are encouraged to continue practising good hygiene, by maintaining a safe social distance while shopping and sanitising hands at the sanitising stations located at key entrances.
