Seafood + Sounds – Sprout Chilli Crab Shack

This year’s Chilli Crab brought to you by the cooking school Sprout is now on this weekend, the 13th and 14th of September. We were lucky enough to try their delicious blue swimmer crabs with thin spaghetti cooked to perfection.

Singaporean Chilli Crab has been a world famous dish to many people. The school altered the spiciness to mild so it catered for the majority. We came at the busiest part of lunch time and it took them less than 15 minutes to prepare our order. They even offered take away containers if you weren’t planning to dine in there.

Located at the corner of Central Market near Gouger Street, just follow your nose as you can’t miss the captivating aroma coming from the stall. They have thought of even the smallest details, as this is not their first gig. Having their stall near the exit with bright blue and yellow tables and chairs ensured the smell was subtle enough to attract the right attention. I personally love it how they have also prepared the bib, wet tissue, cutlery and of course the crab cracker.

Going to this event held by Seafood + Sound at Adelaide Central Market, we knew what we were getting into; messy yet tasty. We each got given about 1.5 to 2 crabs depending on size on a bed of spaghetti, garnished with coriander, lime and fried shallots. Do us a favour and squeeze the lime around, it enhanced the flavour so much, it was simply divine. Their choice of using the blue swimmer crabs was excellent. The meat was succulent and sweet, it complemented the sauce perfectly well. We just couldn’t get enough of the sauce, every little drip mattered. And when were also serenaded by live music singing some popular pop songs, it has made our lunch even more enjoyable.

Seafood + Sound is not limited to just Chilli Crab. Cumbia Kitchen and Bar is also doing their tapas which they are specialising daily from their restaurant. So is Samtass Seafood with their fresh catch of fish and seashells, and if you are lucky, you will get to taste their seasonal feature dish of fresh sea urchins. With a few vendors to choose from for two days only, it’s only fair to make the most out of it and get yourself there to enjoy the freshest, affordable seafood tasting experience. And if I may suggest starting with the chilli crab, you won’t regret it. Not forgetting to mention that with all these scrumptious food, drinks are followed from the breath taking Green Ant Gin to Pirate Life Beer. These complement the event nicely.
