Adelaide Fringe 2019 – Jackson Vs Jackson

Last night we had the pleasure of having a sing-song and a boogie to the songs of both Janet and Michael Jackson, thanks to the superb performance of Jackson Vs Jackson at Gluttony. As a huge Janet and Michael Jackson fan myself, I was expecting great things and definitely wasn’t disappointed!

Jackson Vs Jackson won the Adelaide Fringe Weekly Award for Best Music in 2018 and was in the top 20 highest selling Fringe Shows last year. This musical masterpiece plays homage to the chart-topping hits of Michael and Janet Jackson. The unforgettable music of two legends is blended into seamless ballads begging to be sung along to. We especially loved the mash up of Michael’s greatest hits such as ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’, ‘Billie Jean’ and ‘Black or White’. The music is dynamic, with fantastic vocal talent from Gospo Collective lead by Charmaine Jones, who is a highly sought-after educator in vocal and choral techniques.

Charmaine dazzled the audience with her fantastic vocal range, hitting notes that the Jackson siblings are sure to be proud of. Her singers captivated us with their perfect harmonies and choreography, we saw the infamous dance moves that Michael Jackson made famous in his music videos. The singers took on the various vocal quirks that Michael had, making the attention to detail in this show extraordinary.

As well as the music, the set design and costumes were breathtaking. We loved the incorporation of both Michael and Janet’s iconic stage costumes, from leotards, sequins and of course Michael’s famous glove. You could really see the pure passion in this performance, everyone involved was generating a fantastic energy that radiated throughout the whole room.

Jackson Vs Jackson is playing at Gluttony from February 15th to March 17th this year. You can buy tickets through the Adelaide Fringe website.
