Tear it all down. Burn it all away. Blow it up and don’t look back. What is it to start over after a long journey? Amity Dry is at the Adelaide Fringe with her show Fortified to show us exactly how it’s done. It’s not an easy journey by any stretch of the imagination.
Heartache, abandonment, sadness and anger. All of this and more is rolled up into the turbulent precipice which is divorce. Walking away from who you became to return to who you were but still forever changed. Fortified is a musical cabaret show in which Amity Dry displays her musical prowess to lead us down the road of love and loss. Her songs, ever enchanting and powerful Amity doesn’t spare us from the details of her life that cut her so deeply. Weaving her story in between ballads and exchanging banter with her musical director Jamie Burgess, who also plays piano. Amity creates an intimate and deeply emotional atmosphere. The audience hangs on her every word and note, brought deeply into her own trials and her triumph of breaking free.
Amity Dry’s vocal talent is without question. Here she has put together a wholly entertaining show that leaves you with a profound impression. Her song writing is striking, poignant and captivating, well deserving of the accolades she has received in previous years.
Amity Dry’s invites all who are willing to listen on this perilous journey to the strength and determination of the female spirit and what it takes to rebuild your life and the hardship she has endured. Come and feel with her as she emerges on the other side, Fortified. Come and blow shit up.
Fortified is performing during the Adelaide Fringe at Gluttony every night until the 24th of February.
