Fare and Square

Having been open for just under a year, Fare and Square have already made a name for themselves to North Adelaide residents.

Walking into a warm, homey interior and friendly staff, we were super excited to try the food on their new summer menu! Here’s what we thought:

The Big Fare
With two eggs your way (we went poached, of course!), bacon, smoky chorizo, slow roasted tomatoes, mushrooms and a small serve of masala chickpeas, served with thick slices of buttered toast, this big brekky really is definitely the breakfast of champions!

Ricotta Fritters
Served with two poached eggs, creamy smashed avo, diced tomatoes, toasted seeds providing a hint of spice, grapefruit salsa and pomegranate molasses, this dish comes with a refreshing hit. The fritters themselves are soft with a delicate flavour and even have a deliciously crispy cheese crust. Not to mention, this dish is also gluten-free!

Baked Masala Chickpeas
A generous dish, the Baked Masala Chickpeas is reminiscent of Indian flavours – with a delicious, full, and aromatic flavour. Served with poached eggs and grilled focaccia, this dish also has a vegan option with sautéed spinach.

Mushrooms On Toast
Mushrooms served on ciabatta bread along with two poached eggs, on a bed of grilled haloumi and sprinkled with pine nuts, this dish is both healthy and indulgent. The mushrooms have a surprisingly sweet profile with a rich earthiness. To top it off, the haloumi cheese is not too salty and not chewy at all – perfectly grilled!

The Lamb Burger
With roasted lamb shoulder, garlic tzatziki, grilled haloumi cheese, fresh tomato, a Kalamata olive salsa and lettuce, the Lamb Burger definitely has the lot! Almost reminding us of an AB pack, this burger is also served with sweet slaw and a little ramekin of creamy mac ‘n’ cheese – a surprising but welcome addition.

The Mushroom Burger
This burger is made from the same roasted sliced mushrooms from the Mushrooms On Toast dish, served with pickled chilli, fresh tomato, lettuce, avocado and caramelised onion on a ciabatta bun, along with slaw. This dish is also 100% vegan (although we asked to have some mac ‘n’ cheese with this burger too).

With such good food and tranquil atmosphere, we weren’t surprised to see many regulars pop in for a coffee and conversation with the staff during our visit.

Fare and Square is located on Wellington Square in North Adelaide and is open 7am til 3pm daily.
