As the ocean rolls gently into Port and the street lamps softly start to glow, be transported to Little Italy in historic Port Adelaide’s newest pop-up bar – Aperitivo Ora. Meaning ‘Happy Hour’ in Italian, Aperitivo Ora is the perfect location for an after work drink, authentic Italian dinner or simply a place to soak up the modern European atmosphere as you enjoy traditional southern street food to live music.
Honoured to attend the launch of Carmine & Co’s Pop-up Piazza, Adelaide Food Central was given the opportunity to try the impressively extensive menu that Aperitivo Ora has to offer.
We firstly tried the absolutely scrumptious Italian Tasting Box, which included a rich tomato-based sauce eggplant parmigiana, lightly salted Italian sausage, a melt in the mouth bolognaise arancini and crunchy herbed garlic crostini. This meal was paired with a crisp rocket, apple, pear and walnut salad.
Next up were two delicious Slow Roasted Fennel and Spiced Pork Sliders with apple slaw. With generously sized buns, this will definitely be a favourite for any meat-lover.
Our mouths began to water even before the Spicy Caprese Chicken Wings reached our table; with eight plump and crispy wings this meal is a delight to share with friends.
To accompany our meals we were recommended a delicious arrangement of cocktails. We tried the Aperol Spritz and Smashed Basil Cocktail – grown from the Bar’s own herb garden! Both drinks were zesty and refreshing, perfect for a warm summer’s evening.
Circled throughout the night was one of the best tasting Margherita pizzas we have ever had; laden with fresh prosciutto, bocconcini and olive oil, on Nonna Vicky’s ‘secret’ tomato and garlic sauce. In addition, platters of sliced meats, cheese, roasted vegetables and dips were dotted on tables around the venue.
Adelaide Food Central would like to sincerely thank Anthony and his family for inviting to the launch event of this fabulous new bar in historic Port Adelaide. Opened for a limited season, Aperitivo Ora embraces the liveliness of the Fringe festivities whilst celebrating fresh ingredients prepared with love that nourishes the body and soul.
Open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from the 17th of February to the 19th of March (6:30pm-1:00am), take a trip down the laneways of Port Adelaide to experience the variety of events that Aperitivo Ora has to offer including jazz nights, weekly Sunday Siestas and the hilarious comedic show ‘Cooking Class with James Liotta’.
