Anybody that has worked their way down Rundle Street would already be familiar with Sir Cafe. Taking over the former BTS store on Gouger Street, Sir Cafe have opened their second store within the Chinatown cafe precinct. They’ve retained the quirky yet stylish decor that was once there, which is pretty much in line with their first store.
They have a fairly extensive dessert menu which includes a selection of crepes, waffles, savoury items, fondues and their signature toasts. Today, I ordered their Strawberry Honey Toast. The dish came out after a 20 minute wait and was beautifully presented. The dessert was huge and just how I remembered it. Two thick slices of toast are served with strawberry ice cream, custard and strawberries. The ice cream is quite nice, as is the custard which is subtle in sweetness.
The staff were friendly and the service was good. The atmosphere was relaxed with a good amount of seating both inside and out. The pavement outside the store is considerably spacious which makes it perfect for warm weather. The cost of the Toast had gone up since my visit two years ago and will now set you back $17.90. I thought it wasn’t worth it then and I still feel the same way now. It is a substantial dessert but one could easily reproduce it at home.
For them to open up a second store, they certainly must be doing something right.
