Tara Restaurant

Tara is a restaurant located on Melbourne Street serving up internationally inspired, wholesome, fresh, organic, gluten-free meals. They also have a much smaller presence at The Marketshed on Holland every Sunday morning. On this particular morning, they have two Filipino street food dishes and an Indian mango lassi.

At Tara, it’s all about holistic nutrition and the slow cooking of their hand made dishes. The ingredients used are organic, chemical free, gluten free, soy free, preservative free and trans-fat free. No white flour, sugar or salt is used, and the items are locally sourced wherever possible.

For lunch, I had the Chicken Inasal BBQ. The chicken fillet was taken straight off the grill and onto my plate. The meat was well marinated, tender and succulent, although it was missing the charcoal flavours due to it’s method of cooking. There was also a piece of sinew in the chicken fillet which indicated it wasn’t prepared properly. The salad was colour, fresh and crisp, and was a perfect accompaniment to the chicken.

The staff were friendly and the service was good. The cost of the dish was $12 which is reasonable considering the size and quality of the meal. While it wasn’t completely perfect, it was still very tasty.

If you can’t get down to their restaurant, get on down to The Market Shed to get a taste of what they have to offer.
