Pizza Capers is a nation wide pizza chain that serves up gourmet pizzas with quality ingredients. With 25 different pizzas on offer, you find yourself scratching your head as to which one to choose. Like other pizza joints, there are other products on offer such as ribs, chicken wings, garlic bread, pasta, salads and ice cream. This particular store offers the option to dine in with seating for 8, however, a majority of customers come here for take away.
Tonight, I ordered an artisan handcrafted pizza called The Maximus with a side of Glazed BBQ Roasted Pork Ribs. I opted to dine in so I could take better quality photos. Taking a photo of pizza inside a box just doesn’t cut it. The store assistant that took my order was super friendly, however, she was also super sick. While she was taking my order, she had to go into the kitchen to cough up a lung. I sat myself down and she brought out cutlery and water. It was a good 15 minutes before my meal arrived.
The Maximus Pizza was amazing! Probably the best fast food pizza I have ever eaten! The presentation of the pizza itself was worthy of the Archibald prize. The quality of the ingredients were superior and every bite of this pizza was simply amazeballs. The vegetable toppings were fresh, the bacon was lean and all the ingredients just worked so well together. The pizza base was slightly thinner in the centre than it was at the edge, but you kind of get that when they’re hand made.
The BBQ Pork Ribs were OK, but not the best I’ve ever tasted. The ribs varied in size and most of them didn’t have much meat on them. With ribs, I expect the meat to simply fall off the bone, but this didn’t happen. What ever you could eat from the ribs was really fatty. To be exact, around 70% fat and 30% meat. The bourbon BBQ sauce was somewhere in between bland and subtly sweet. It just didn’t do it for me.
They do really good gourmet pizzas here and unlike the usual pizza chains, you don’t walk away feeling bloated or extra thirsty from all the salt that you’ve just eaten. There are basically 4 classes of pizza available; Artisan handcrafted, Traditional, Capers Collection and the Black Label. The Artisan pizzas only come in one size, where as the other pizza classes come in small, large or gluten free. The pricing varies depending on the size and class of pizza you select.
I wasn’t a fan of the Pork Ribs, but the pizza was definitely a highlight!
