Art Gallery Food + Wine

Located at the rear of the South Australian Art Gallery, the Art Gallery Food and Wine is a north facing cafe which receives an abundance of natural light. The cafe offers a range of beverages, light lunches and sweets, with an emphasis on quality and presentation. The outdoor dining area is more casual, while the indoor area seems a bit more formal, with the white table cloths and linen napkins. Watch out for the automatic sliding door as you enter the cafe, the sensor may not detect you are there and may close on you.

Today, I ordered the Portobello Mushroom Risotto. The meal came out 15 minutes after ordering and all meals arrived at the same time. The dish was beautifully presented and was like a work of art. The risotto was rich and intensely savoury, however, the grains of rice were slightly on the al dente side for my taste. The mushrooms were tender and juicy, and were really complimented by the flavourful mushroom sauce. The thyme infused oil was an interesting touch, however, I felt it added more to the presentation than anything else. The dish was more on the conservative side, particularly for the restaurant prices.

The service here was exceptional, however, the some of the staff members looked like they’d rather be somewhere else. The atmosphere was relaxed, and the experience as a whole was quite enjoyable. The highlight of this place is the quality of the food. It’s absolutely delicious and probably paying that little bit extra for. This really is the place to go for a peaceful Sunday afternoon lunch. I’m sure I’ll be back!
