On Thursday night we attended Joe’s Henley Beach for the launch of Dinner at Joe’s. Situated head first looking out onto the stunning ocean, the views were spectacular especially as the sun went down. Consisting of a set menu for $60, Joe’s will provide you with the star dishes on their menu boasting flavour and vibrancy. We were thoroughly impressed with each and every dish that was presented to us.
Coffin Bay Oysters served natural with lemon and shallot mignonette.
You can not go wrong with these fresh bad boys tasting like they came straight from the ocean. The subtle mignonette was the perfect topping, which helped to bounce the flavour of the oyster.
South Australian Hiramasa Kingfish, salmon roe, avocado, red chilli, cucumber and Kewpie mayo on prawn crackers.
This dish was extremely beautiful with bursts of green, yellow, purple and pink. The flavours were subtle, and I enjoyed the perfect crunch and contrast of the cucumber and kingfish. We loved the idea of the crispy prawn crackers with the Kewpie mayo to enhance its flavour.
Port Lincoln Cockle Pasta
Bucatini pasta, cockle, confit red chilli, garlic, olive oil and white wine.
This is one of my favourite dishes, and the first thing I order when it comes to pasta. The cockles were beyond fresh, and nestled in the shell was the olive oil, chilli and white wine sauce. The pasta was cooked well and helped to soak up the flavour of the fish and sauce. A must try dish!
SA Grilled Snapper Fillet
Sanmarillio, pickled fennel, and market vegetables
Fish isn’t my usual go to dish, but I was blown away with Joe’s recipe. All the flavours were subtle but balanced and worked well with each other. I thoroughly enjoy fennel in any dish and the vegetables paired well with the sanmarillo fish. The snapper was accompanied by the most perfectly cooked potatoes I have ever seen. They were giant wedges but insanely crunchy and salty. They could have been some of the best potatoes we have had.
Bottega vanilla bean ice cream, Joe’s espresso, bougee crumble and Baileys
We couldn’t end the night without trying their star dessert. You cannot go wrong with Bottega ice-cream one of my favourites, topped with authentic espresso. The crumble and Baileys went well with the other elements and it was just what we expected to finish with.
Thank you to Hugo and the team at Joe’s Henley Beach for inviting us. We were so impressed by not only the food but the ambience and feel of your restaurant. We can not wait to come back!
