A fresh autumn Sunday was the perfect day to explore some gorgeous wineries for the McLaren Vale Vintage and Classic. Beginning with a morning car parade in Main Street, ten wineries across McLaren Vale then played host to the classic and vintage cars so that spectators and car lovers could get up close with some of the amazing vehicles on display.
Our first stop of the day was Shingleback Wine which was hosting some very impressive and super shiny Lamborghinis and McLarens (McLarens in McLaren Vale – how perfect!). We enjoyed a lovely sweet moscato along with food served by Meez On Plus Catering. We had their Pulled Pork Burger with Apple Slaw, the Thai Salt N’ Pepper Squid, and the Dirty Dog with Beef Chilli and Pickles. Sipping wine and nibbling food all while enjoying the ambience of the winery was a perfect start to the day.
We also visited Fox Creek Wines, where we enjoyed a lovely Grenache Rosé and a tasting platter filled with soft and hard cheese, crackers, dried fruit and mixed nuts. Cheese and wine is a match made in heaven and the Rosé paired with a cracker topped with brie and a dried apricot was my absolute favourite combo. Fox Creek Wines provided such a beautiful family friendly space to relax, listen to a great live band, and view the range of classic Morris mini and MG vehicles on display.
The last winery of the day was Hugo Wines which had quite the eye catching car on display – a hot pink Volkswagen Eureka! We enjoyed a Shiraz this time, and as for food Holdfast Shore’s Oyster Bar offered a great range of seafood to enjoy with wine. The serves were generous and so freshly cooked – the Fish Tacos were especially crispy and so very delicious.
We finished the day well fed and happy, and as the sun set over the vineyards of Hugo Wines it was truly McLaren Vale at its best.
