Joining the hustle and bustle of the Adelaide Central Markets is the Australian Native Food Co. Celebrating native Australian ingredients, Australian Native Food Co. offers a selection of jams, marinades, chocolates, tea, candles, gift sets and much more!
Their unique products utilise the flavoursome health benefits of Australian superfoods and are 100% South Australian made. Some of their delicious spreads include peppered Kakadu Plum, Quandong and Rhubarb, Bush Apple, and my personal favourite, Green Ant Marmalade! Perfect on scones, with a bit of yoghurt, or even spread over meat, these jams and jellies are versatile and vibrant. I was treated to a surprise dessert – vanilla ice cream topped with Green Ant Marmalade, sprinkled with their Native Bush Dukkah. Seems like a strange combination, but absolutely extraordinary flavour. The Green Ant Marmalade has a strong lemon taste but the ants leave a sweet honey aftertaste, so unexpectedly tasty!
Also on offer are their superfood chocolates which are all vegan and gluten free. All of their chocolates have titles based on their ingredients, such as Antioxidence, Metabolise, aGut Health, and Total Health Kick. Ingredients in these include Lemon Myrtle, Wattleseed, Murray River Salt, and Pepper Berries. Quite unexpectedly my favourite chocolate was The Sticky Red which had Bush Tomato and Balsamic Toffee as the main ingredients. It goes to show how important keeping an open mind is, I never would have thought to try this combination of flavours! The friendly team at Australian Native Food Co. are always happy to share samples of their range, and freshly brewed teas are always available to sample and enjoy.
In conjunction with Renew Adelaide, this is the first brick and mortar location for Australian Native Food Co. and excitingly they will also soon be opening at Westfield Marion.
