Kris Lloyd Artisan – Green Ant Cheese Takes Out Second Prize

Kris Lloyd Artisan – Anthill, a Chevre covered in Australian Native Green Ants and South Australian Lemon Myrtle – was awarded the silver trophy at the 2019 Brazil’s Cheese World Contest coming second overall.

The competition saw over 1,000 cheeses from across the world judged by an international judging panel of cheese experts.

Anthill scored a 20 out of possible 20 points, with the judges applauding the precision with which the base cheese, a 5-day old goat chèvre, was made; the balance of the seasoning; and the freshness in flavour was perfect.

Judges’ comments included, “The texture was superb, creamy and light.”

“The style, while a little unorthodox, was exceptionally balanced, creative and illustrated the place where it was made – Australia.”

Kris Lloyd’s primary cheese brand, Woodside Cheese Wrights was awarded a silver medal for its Edith Cheese, an ash goat milk cheese that the company has been making for over 25 years.

Kris Lloyd said, “Anthill is such a special cheese to us, it has opened doors for export, put our brand on the map internationally, and delighted judges and punters who taste it. But most importantly, it is a cheese that tells an Australian story, it is the only cheese in the world like it and it really does taste good! We are so thrilled with the result awarded to us in Brazil.”

Kris celebrates 20 years in the cheese industry in 2019, is self-taught and has forged a successful business based on high value add and innovative cheeses.

Kris is also proud to announce that Anthill will now form part of a native cheese plate being offered on QANTAS business and first-class flights beginning in September 2019.
