Jamaica Blue Myer Centre has released a brad new menu that is sure to please any customer, and we just couldn’t wait to taste it for ourselves.
The café is located on the upper ground level of the Myer Centre in Rundle Mall, and have lovely large windows that overlook the ground floor. I know what you are thinking though, what a busy and loud place to be eating my lunch!? But trust me, when you enter you will instantly forget you are in a busy shopping centre and will be able to just sit and relax.
With soft music and a modern décor, it is the perfect location to catch up with friends or just sit alone and immerse yourself in your own thoughts, or within your favourite book with a coffee.
The beautiful, friendly and accommodating staff are sure to help you with any experience you are wanting to have, and always leave you with a smile.
The new menu is full of favourites as well as new dishes; some light and fresh additions that are perfect for the upcoming warm summer months, with some warm hearty meals that everyone loves to have around Christmas time.
Corn Fritters served with smashed avocado are a perfect light meal. But don’t let the small size fool you, the fritters are packed full of flavour and can fill you up in no time. The sweet taste of the corn and fresh avocado mixed together gave off a slight Mexican feel to the dish, which I loved. These sweeter flavours and the wonderful freshness of the avocado balanced well with the fried fritter batter that gave a more savoury/earthy tone. It was also beautifully thin and light; not thick and overpowering at all. The added lime on the side gave a lovely slightly sour element to the dish, complimenting the sweet corn and giving a nice tangy kick to the avocado.
The Classic Steak Sandwich is a favourite among many people, and for myself it is no exception. But this one at Jamaica Blue is something I would solely come back for. Served with a grilled scotch fillet, bacon, sliced tomato, rocket, caramelised onion, aoli, gherkins, all on a Turkish roll; it is ingredient match making 101. The sandwich held a delicious combination of flavours, from the sweetness of the caramelised onion to the tang from the pickled gherkins. The fresh rocket and tomato added earthy tones but also lightened the savoury dish from the smokiness of the bacon and the beautifully marinated steak. Not only packed full of flavour, the dish was wonderfully balanced. We also opted to add egg to our steak sandwich, for the perfect flavour explosion.
The Breakfast Crepe is scrambled eggs served in a warm savoury crepe, with bacon, Parmesan cheese, truss tomatoes and shallots. If you love scrambled eggs, this is the dish for you. And even if you are sitting on the fence, I promise this is definitely worth a try. The eggs are perfectly light and fluffy, and with the melting Parmesan cheese mixed in, it was a delicious combination already as is. The bacon added a lovely smoky, deeper tone to the light eggs and balanced the sweetness from the beautifully roasted whole truss tomatoes; a perfect additive to the dish that tied all the flavours together; getting the balance of sweet and savoury.
Eggs Florentine is made with: poached eggs, sautéed baby spinach, toasted ciabatta muffin and warm hollandaise. We also opted to add smoked salmon to our dish, which I would highly recommend. The sweeter hollandaise sauce combined with the light and fluffy muffin was beautiful, balancing textures of the smooth sauce and the light but crunchy bread. The muffin was perfect to soak up all the sauce and the runny egg yolk, and overall paired well with the smokiness of the fresh salmon. The sautéed spinach was light but filling, and added an earthier tone to the overall dish.
And of course we had to try the Jamaica Blue Big Breakfast. And what a breakfast it was. With eggs your way, grilled bacon and chorizo, roasted truss tomatoes, grilled haloumi cheese, hash brown, baby spinach and sourdough toast; there was enough on the plate to feed a horse, or at least a very hungry person (or two). The grilled chorizo added a spicy kick to the meal and left a heat on your tongue, while the fresh, thin haloumi was beautifully creamy and helped to cool the palate from the chorizo. The hash brown gave a beautiful savoury/salty flavour, with its perfect crunchy outer and soft potato centre, that balanced well with the softness of the egg and spinach. The truss tomatoes added a sweetness that complimented the other array of flavours, the perfect finishing touch that pulled the whole dish together.
