Ooh LaLa Burger is oh so good!
The brick and mortar restaurant, situated in the heart of Mount Barker, is run by an uncle and nephew duo. Both possess a passion for food and sourcing quality local produce.
Originally from the UK, the pair moved to Australia and decided to turn their love of quality food into a business. “We care that it’s organic, it’s local, it’s simple and it’s quality”, says Selwyn.
Organically reared Black Angus beef is purchased from the local butcher and freshly made brioche buns are made to order from the local bakery. Delicious tomato jams, sauces, dressings and cakes are all homemade. Hand cut fries, hand formed patties and specially mixed rubs are also made on site.
Selwyn explained that, “We shop on the day, prep on the day and cook on the day. We know it’s fresh!”
The modest menu has a selection of dishes to suit all palates.
First up, we tried the iconic Ooh La La Burger. This dish consisted of a Black Angus blend, featuring a beurre noisette glaze, melted Gouda cheese, oak leaf lettuce, smoked bacon, fresh tomato, fresh onion, spiced gherkins and the ‘Ooh’ homemade smokey tomato jam in between a handmade brioche bun.
The Chicken Burger came with marinated buttermilk free range fried chicken, oak leaf lettuce, fresh onion, fresh tomato and the ‘Ooh’ homemade smokey tomato jam between a handmade brioche bun. The satisfying crispy crunch of the fried chicken left you wanting more after each bite.
The Mushroom Burger is the perfect option for our fellow vegan and vegetarians out there. The dish includes a herb coated flat top mushroom, fresh tomato, oak leaf lettuce and sriracha mayonnaise in a handmade brioche bun.
The Salad was ordered with smoked salmon and came with fresh green lettuce, olive oil, red onion, crumbled feta, mixed tomato, cucumber and ‘Mummy’s Dressing’ (honey, mint, and mustered infused dressing).
Loaded Ooh Fries were next! Melted Gouda, smoked bacon bits, spring onions and sriracha mayonnaise, were oozing over the fresh hand cut fries. This dish is sure to be a crowd pleaser as it’s packed with flavour and punch.
Last, but not least, the Medley Tomato Bruschetta. Fresh chopped medley tomatoes, crumbled creamy feta, torn basil, served on garlic rubbed lightly toasted organic ciabatta bread, drizzled with virgin olive oil. Delicious! This dish is ideal for a light meal or bunch with the girls.
We washed it all down with a classic Chocolate Milkshake and a flavoursome Ginger Float. After all, aren’t burgers and milkshakes the perfect combination?
Ooh LaLa Burger will reopen on the 12th of June with an updated menu, so make sure to check it out with your friends and family!
