With a recent successful stint at the Perth Fringe, Yummy now makes its way to Adelaide bringing with it a powerhouse cabaret of Melbourne drag, dance, circus, and live music.
The show has a unique sense of gender balance and fluidity that reflects a changing cultural attitude towards gender identity, and is recognised for incorporating women who do female drag. Not sure what to expect, we found ourselves cheering, laughing and singing along with this multi-talented cast.
Every performer has their own routine which brings out their individual personality. From complex dance routines to energetic hula-hooping, the audience would have had no idea of what to expect next. The music choices were also appropriate with a mish-mash of old and new. They almost fit seamlessly into the fascinating and complex contemporary choreography. The costumes were also a highlight in themselves. From multi-coloured wigs to sequined dresses, it would have been like the change rooms of a runway show backstage.
Having never seen any other drag shows before, I can’t really compare it to anything but it was definitely enjoyable. No stone has been left unturned with this production. The costumes, music and choreography have been well thought out, and will leave you in awe as you watch the show.
If you love drag shows, then you will definitely love this!
Yummy is showing from February 17th to March 4th. You can book your tickets here.
