PBA Coffee House

We visited the lovely crew at Protein Balls Adelaide again today, but this time for their most exciting venture yet – PBA Coffee House! Having moved their kitchen operations over from their previous Sunnybrae location, they are only less than a month away from opening their cafe doors on Henley Beach Road with a new kitchen at the back-of-house whipping up a plethora of vegan treats.

Protein balls are not only a cleaner alternative to regular desserts, protein balls are also loaded with 19-25 grams of protein per serve, free of refined sugar, full of dietary fibre, Vegan friendly and mostly gluten free. This makes the protein balls a versatile and all-encompassing snack to have in between meals or after a workout, as a dessert or a fun way to include more protein into your diet.

Already supplying these raw goodies to a growing list of reputable cafes around Adelaide and making stunning vegan cakes for birthdays and special occasions, passionate owners, Heba and Nick, felt that the time was right for them to set up an environment for people to be able to come in and experience their nutritious protein balls and raw vegan slices, along with a fresh brew of coffee and a few new desserts Heba has charmingly created; including a refreshing Antioxidant Berry smoothie bowl and a rich, creamy Snickers raw smoothie bowl.

Although you can find their protein balls and vegan slices in many cafes spotted in and around town (Argo’s on the Parade and Bar 9 to name a couple), the cafe will have the most extensive variety of options, some of which are not made available elsewhere. A few treats we sampled were a curation from their protein balls range including – Peanut Butter, Raspberry Lamington, Chocolate and Choc Hazelnut. These were some of the best protein balls I have tasted, and will completely banish any stigma that ever crossed your mind around raw, healthy desserts being dull or uninspiring.

We also tried a selection of their colourful vegan slices including – Fruchoc, Snickers, Tiramisu, Lemon & Pistachio and Tiramisu. Every slice was indulgent and had a distinct set of layers, some of which were smooth and velvety, and others more dense but in perfect proportion to balance one another out as a whole. Just yesterday I would never have thought to use the word ‘indulgent’ to describe a raw dessert.

The cafe will also feature locally roasted SOHO Coffee beans, a series of fresh fruit and green juices and have Sparkling Water, Kombucha tea and Nitro Cold Brew available on tap, which sounds all too exciting because, everything tastes better on tap!

We would like to thank the lovely Heba and Nick for the amazing spread, and wait in anticipation for them to announce an official opening date for PBA Coffee House.
