A slice of delicious decadence is on its way to this year’s Royal Adelaide Show with Carême Pastry throwing its sponsorship support behind the return of an old classic, the Vanilla Slice Competition, at the September 1-10 event.
The Tanunda-based creator of premium traditional pastry doughs is a strong supporter of all things local and saw the opportunity as a delicious fit.
“We’re always on the lookout for opportunities that encourage home cooks to learn more about baking with pastry and add a little creativity to their kitchens, so when the organisers asked us to sponsor the resurrected Vanilla Slice Category in the ‘Old Classic’ sub section of the Open Cookery competition, we jumped at the chance,” Managing Director Claire Wood said.
Ms Wood, who runs the family business with puff pastry buff husband William, added that the Vanilla Slice is an iconic Australian dessert and with all competitors using Carême Pastry products in their creations, it’s a great way to show off the company’s ready-to-bake butter puff pastry that’s made the old-fashioned way, with natural ingredients and generous dollops of butter.
Ms Wood’s views are shared by the Royal Adelaide Show’s Sponsorship Coordinator, Jackie Marsh, who noted that they’d specifically targeted Carême Pastry for the Vanilla Slice competition.
“As Claire said, the Vanilla Slice is an Australian classic and we felt it fitting that a well-known and much-loved South Australian brand renowned for its quality without compromise approach was integral to the competition,” she said.
“We expect the Carême Pastry partnership to be longstanding and believe it will ensure a strong standard of entry and growth in the years ahead.”
Some 25 entries have already been received for this year’s competition, with the judging to occur immediately before the Show’s opening day and all entries to remain on display within the cookery display section of the Duncan Gallery throughout its 10-day duration.
The winner will receive a Carême Pastry trophy and certificate, while the second and third placed entries will receive silver and gold medals respectively and certificates.
