Vietnamese food has become ever so popular in Adelaide, mainly due to its use of fresh ingredients. Located in the Churchill Centre shopping complex, Phonomena is a small eatery that has been around for over 2 years. Their menu consists of all your favourite Vietnamese street food dishes which include Vietnamese bread rolls, bun bao, cold rolls, noodle soups, vermicelli dishes, and salad bowls.
It wouldn’t have been right to not have Pho at Phonemena (who doesn’t love a good pun in a business name?). They have a little self service station at the front counter where you can get all your sauces and fresh Asian herbs. Within 5 minutes of ordering, my dish was ready. Presentation was good and I liked the use of a glass bowl; something different to every other Vietnamese eatery. The key to a good Pho is the broth. This one was light and well seasoned; not too fatty and not overpowered by star anise. The fresh noodles were perfectly cooked, and the beef slices and brisket were lean. For me, it was pretty good.
I quite liked Phonemena. The staff were warm and welcoming, the service was pretty good, and the atmosphere fairly laid back. Pricing is just right with a bowl of Pho setting you back $11.50. There’s a fair amount of seating and plenty of parking outside. The perfect place to get your Vietnamese fix while shopping at the Churchill Centre.
Phonomena is open from Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am-7pm, Thursday 10am-9pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10am-6pm.
