Bird in Hand Winery – One Day Wellness Retreats

If you feel like you haven’t had a moment to yourself this year, a one-day wellness retreat at Bird In Hand Winery is set to give you the opportunity to reconnect with your mind, body and soul through the ancient Chinese practice of Qi Gong.

Led by the internationally renowned Ziran Qi Gong instructor Paul Dumais and set among the vineyards in the Adelaide Hills, the retreat aims to provide a nourishing and relaxed environment for participants to improve their energy.

Described as being the secret of youth, Qi Gong can be practiced by anyone, of any age, regardless of their flexibility or overall level of fitness.

Mr Dumais will guide participants through a series of Qi Gong exercises that combine rhythmic breathing with slow, fluid movements to achieve a calm and mindful state.

From a philosophical perspective, Mr Dumais said practicing Qi Gong is believed to help develop human potential, awaken one’s true nature and access higher realms of awareness.

“Bringing one’s mind, body and spirit into harmony plays a significant role in achieving overall health and wellbeing,” he said.

Living in a fast-paced society with to-do lists that never seem to end, Mr Dumais believes it is important for people to take time out to focus on both their physical and mental health.

Dr Susan Nugent of Health Wise Integrative Medicine and host of the workshops said that while we would all be reinvigorated and in better shape after a week at a health retreat, this can be daunting and just not practical. “These day-retreats are a great way for people to take time out that has more sustained benefit than a quick yoga class, yet doesn’t require the time commitment of a full week away from work and family”

After the Qi Gong workshop in the morning, participants will be invited to enjoy a wine meditation followed by a beautiful lunch, featuring a range of dishes prepared using delicious locally-sourced, fresh produce. With nutrition and mindful eating playing a key role in maintaining the body’s balance, participants will gain an insight in to how they can make small changes to their diet to improve their overall health and wellness.”

Dr Nugent said the day’s unique fusion of movement, food, wine and meditation ensures participants feel rejuvenated when they leave.

“After our last workshop participants said they felt motivated and inspired to make changes to their life. We speak a lot about preventative medicine and important it is. Practices such as Qi Gong, which is used as part of Chinese medicine, can help shift the blockages that make you procrastinate. It also has its origins in martial arts so is more appealing to men and sexier than other mindfulness practices”
