In the past, Adelaide has gone through a phase where every new eatery seemed to be Mexican. While the cuisine is still a firm favourite, Kua Bistro and Rooftop Bar provides a modern twist to the cuisine. From the couple that brought you Maiz and Mezcal, Ivan and Sonia Pichardo have renovated a historic building that was once a stable. Using architects from Mexico, they’ve been able to create a sleek and elegant space over two levels. The ground floor dining space is modern and stylish with a feature pink wooden stencil on the main wall. Upstairs on the rooftop bar, it is a bit more casual. Customers can choose from a selection of beer, wine and cocktails while they enjoy the views of the Adelaide skyline.
Kua Bistro and Rooftop Bar is by no means your typical Mexican restaurant in Adelaide. You won’t find any tacos, burritos or nachos on the menu. It’s Mexican because the dishes use Mexican ingredients, and the restaurant itself is typical of what you’d find in Mexican City. Choose from appetisers such as Ceviche in coconut cream or Cochinita Fried Wontons. For something more substantial, there is Grilled Octopus, Salmon al la Plancha or Poached Seasonal Fish.
Kua Bistro and Rooftop Bar is open for lunch from Monday to Friday from 12pm-3pm, for dinner from Monday to Thursday from 6pm-9pm, Friday 4:30pm-1:30am and Saturday 6pm-1:30am.
