Weft Textiles

Through the bright lit halls of Parc Arcade you will find a textiles and soft furnishing studio dedicated to environmental sustainability, community integration, quality and longevity – Weft Textiles. Sourcing local natural fabrics that are then hand dyed with botanical dyes by global communities, which are then manufactured in Australia, Weft Textiles is an innovative and ethnically diverse company with an individual aesthetic.

Adelaide Food Central was privileged to attend the Exclusive Launch Event of Weft Textile’s first line titled ‘sub rosa’; to mean in secret or in confidence. Creator and owner Samia Fisher – RMIT Interior Design graduate and freelance interior designer – has perfectly paired sustainably sourced and certified organic French flax and cotton that is grown, spun and woven by communities in Indonesia with botanical dyes that are then individually crafted back on Australian soil. The results are stunning, with an array of luxurious tea towels, soft furnishings, kimono-styled bathrobes and bed linen in colours that include, cumulus, jade, charcoal, khaki, rose and amber.

The shop, with a welcoming frontage of wooden furniture and soft textile towels and cushions, with wall’s adorned with framed photographs of Samia’s time in Tarum – a zero-waste workshop in Ubud, Indonesia – where her first line of textiles were dyed.

The store was packed with employees, friends, family and media, with everyone excitedly feeling the fabrics that were hung perfectly around the room. There were brief speeches by both Samia and Renew Adelaide – a non-profit organisation that encourages new enterprises into vacant store areas – before guests were encouraged to tuck into a gorgeous spread of locally made bread, butter and pickles accompanied by a selection of cheeses from Calendar Cheese.

The quintessential partner to such a delicate array of cheddar was the carefully selected alcoholic beverages supplied by Alpha Box & Dice. Drinks included the Tarot, Wightmare, Zaptung Miracle Cider and Cooper’s Legends Summer Lager.

Adelaide Food Central would like to give their sincere thanks to Samia, West Textiles and the team at Renew Adelaide for the invitation to such a special event. We wish all the best to West Textiles for the journey ahead, and for the next incredible line of products.
