The western side of Adelaide has been undergoing significant changes recently, with houses and families popping up along the coast and its food culture evolving with it. Sportivo Woodfire Kitchen, a family owned restaurant that was once the first in the area to make wood fire pizzas, has recently gone through significant renovations to both the venue as well as the menu after nine successful years of business. Along with a new chef from Melbourne who has worked with the likes of George Calombaris, Sportivo has refreshed its breakfast and lunch menu to add to their classic pizzas and pastas.
Starting off lunch on a glorious thirty degree, day right on the West Lakes waterfront, we began our meal with the Granchio – a blue swimmer crab pasta dish with greens, white wine and chilli in a light Pomodoro sauce. Scuttling to the forefront of the menu, this generously sized crab dish had the perfect balance of a strong bite of chilli to the delightfully al dente pasta.
The Steak Sandwich, a classic Australian summer lunch, has been cleverly re-crafted between two golden toasted slices of flatbread, to include bubbly melted Swiss cheese, sharp tomato relish and sweet beetroot hummus, alongside lightly herbed chips – a perfectly balanced meal for a hot Summer’s day.
A meal at Sportivo could not go without its self-titled pizza; a personal spin on a meat-lover’s pizza with ‘the lot’. Generous with their toppings on a light crispy base, you can tell their ingredients are fresh by the rich flavours that explode in your mouth with each bite.
With so much selection, we could not resist but order a second pizza titled White Prosciutto; a pizza with a white sauce base, two types of cheeses and the underlying sweet taste of prosciutto. With the same scrumptious base, this pizza offered a much lighter and sweeter option, but still provided a very filling meal.
Last was the Marinated Lamb, a Mediterranean style salad with couscous, mint yogurt and toasted pine nuts. So much about this was enticing, from the brilliantly cooked and seasoned lamb to the freshness of the yogurt and crunch of the salad. It is a salad that will leave you energised and full for the rest of the afternoon.
With an even vaster, more dynamic and modernised menu and located in front of the picturesque backdrop of the shimmering blue lake, Sportivo is the perfect place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. With fairly priced meals, to friendly staff, and impeccable service, this Italian restaurant is certainly the place to be; we hope both those near and far will get to enjoy a fine meal like we experienced.
Sportivo Woodfire Kitchen is open Tuesday – Sunday, 9am till late
Adelaide Food Central would like to thank everyone at Sportivo for their hospitality.
