When it comes to impeccable locations, the Stamford Grand Adelaide in Glenelg has it all. The iconic hotel is only footsteps from the beach and boasts magnificent beachside views that few places can offer. Located on the ground floor is The Grand Bar where locals, guests and tourists congregate. With live music, all day dining and spectacular views, it’s easy to see why this place is the go-to destination at Glenelg. To further add to the experience, timber decking has been completed outside The Grand Bar, and to go with it is a modern Australian breakfast menu. Adelaide Food Central, along with other guests, were invited for breakfast on the new deck. All food and drink were provided free of charge.
We started off with the Big Brekky Tower which consists of three favourites piled up onto a single tower. The bottom tier was typical of your big breakfast with middle bacon, sausages, house baked beans, herbed tomatoes and toast. The dish was very hearty and filling, and that segment alone would easily satisfy one person. The next tier up was the Mosley Square eggs benny with hash browns. The eggs were perfectly poached with plenty of yolk oozing down the sides of the English muffin. The hash browns were crispy around the edges, and were the perfect accompaniment to the dish. Moving to the top tier we had an assortment of house baked pastries and seasonal fruit salad. The pastries were nice and flaky while the fruit salad was freshly cut. We were told this was one of the smaller towers with the larger version being made up of five dishes.
For the main breakfast, I ordered the Smashed Avo Eggs Benny. Being quite tired on a Sunday morning, I made the mistake of ordering a dish that already appeared on the Big Brekkie Tower. I guess you can’t have too much of a good thing!
The new decking and breakfast menu at The Grand Bar adds to an already impressive arsenal of things to do at The Stamford Grand Adelaide. With live music, all day food and drink, and magnificent views, The Grand Bar is perfect for any time of day.
