Mullygrub Food Truck

Anybody that has been to a Down the Rabbit Hole pop-up cellar door event would already be familiar with Mullygrub Food Truck. Based in McLaren Vale, the food truck focuses on offering delicious food using the region’s fresh produce. We were at the Fridays After Five markets at Aldinga, and were fortunate enough to be in their presence. Three dishes were on offer today and we already knew we were in for a treat.

First up was the Ricotta Gnocchi. The morsels of gnocchi were fried until crisp and chewy. These were smothered with a sweet tomato sauce and balanced by a flavoursome basil and roquette pesto. The thin slices of haloumi were soft and delicate, and added a salty element to the dish. A great start to proceedings!

Next was the 14 Hour Smoked Lamb. The lamb was simply amazing! The meat simply fell apart and the smokiness was to die for. I haven’t had lamb this good in a long time! The beetroot labne was a lovely bright purple, and it’s subtle sweetness worked well with the orange citrus component. The cucumber added a nice crunchy, as did the crispness of the lettuce. Great dish!

The final dish was the Coconut Crusted Chicken Burger. The patty was fried to a golden brown. Its exterior was crunchy while the chicken was perfectly cooked. The Asian slaw reminded me of a Vietnamese salad with all the fresh Asian herbs. The peanut dressing was well applied and rounded the dish off well.

Mullygrub Food Truck consistently offer great food. Premium quality ingredients are used and the food is delicious everytime. What’s more surprising is that the food comes from a truck.
