The Italian Place

The Italian Place is a cafe located in a shopping complex in the northern suburb of Felixstow. From the outside, it doesn’t look like much, but the place comfortably holds up to 60 people. The menu is fairly extensive with all your Italian favourites. Customers can choose from pasta, risotto, mains, salads and pizzas. Tonight, we were here for the “all you can eat” deal which includes antipasto to share, pizza and pasta, dessert and coffee, and a glass of wine. This offer is available from Wednesday to Sunday from 5pm-8pm and costs $30 per person. The Chef decides what dishes come out, and the food continually comes out as you finish each round.

We started off proceedings with the Antipasto. Served on a wooden board, it was made up of cured meats, cheeses and olives. Good quality ingredients were used and it was a great start to the meal. Next was the Garlic Bread Pizza which came in family sized pizza bases. The bread was soft and fluffy, and loaded with butter and garlic. A serving of Greco salad also came out. The salad was fresh and crisp, and just the right amount of vinaigrette dressing was applied. We were then each given small servings of two types of their pasta. The pastas were al dente, and each of the sauces were well seasoned and executed to perfection.

The group was served two family sized pizzas that were split into half-half toppings. The amount of toppings was generous and well distributed over the pizza. More importantly, premium quality ingredients were used as you could tell with every bite. The base was equivalent to a classic crust and had a consistent thickness throughout. It was really good pizza.

Last but not least was dessert and coffee. Dessert came in the form of Cannoli which are made in house. Their shells were firm and crisp, while the custard filling was smooth with a thick consistency. While the Cannoli wasn’t bad, we felt the custard could have done with more sugar.

The food at The Italian Place was very good, and there was very little to fault in all the dishes. The service was good and the ambience was very laid back. At $30 per person for the all you can eat deal, you’ll certainly get your monies worth. If there was one criticism about the place, it was the ventilation. If you’re seated under the fan on a hot day, you’re fine, but anywhere else, it can get stuffy.

The Italian Place is open from 7:30am-5pm on Monday and Tuesday, 7:30am till late from Wednesday to Saturday, and from 10am till late on Sundays.
