The Archer Hotel

The Archer Hotel has been many things over the years, from a church library to a radio station. Even throughout all this, The Archer has kept its Heritage intact and still remains an icon in the heart of North Adelaide. They have 17 beers on tap, a cocktail bar and a well rounded wine selection. Among its treasures is a beautiful beer garden, cosy lounge room, large balcony, fully functional fireplaces, a charming original wooden staircase and plenty of outdoor dining. The food offering has been created to match The Archer’s vision; the best pub fare given a unique twist to suit the premium surroundings. The menu offers diversity and clarity with a combination of signature dishes and traditional pub fare. Rest assured, there is something for everyone.

We started off with the Burrata which was served with pizza oil and ciabatta. Buratta is a fresh Italian cheese made from mozzarella and cream. The outside is a solid curd and made from fresh mozzarella, however the inside contains a stringy curd and fresh cream. The flavour was milky and buttery, and perfect with the lightly toasted ciabatta.

The Beer Battered Zucchini Flowers is a dish that you often see at Italian restaurants and new age pubs. These were by far the best. The flowers had a nice crispy coating and were loaded with gooey mozzarella. The saltiness of the white anchovies hidden in the mix gave it plenty of depth.

The King Prawns were served with gremolata and pangrattato. The prawns were juicy and succulent, and you could taste the subtle flavours of garlic, lemon and parsley. The bread crumbs added a nice crunchy texture to the dish.

The Panzanella Salad consists of new season tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, fresh basil, balsamic vinegar and crunchy ciabatta. Bright and colourful, and full of fresh ingredients, this salad will make you feel healthy all over. The sweetness of the tomatoes, the aroma of the basil, and the soft and firm mozzarella all come together to create something delicious and refreshing. The ciabatta adds a crunchy texture while the balsamic vinegar brings everything together.

We love a good gnocchi and this was up there with the best. The generous morsels of light and fluffy gnocchi were mixed with pesto, pine nuts, buerre noisette and grana padano. The dish was buttery and you could taste the crunchiness from the pine nuts and the sharpness from the grana padano. Perfectly executed!

As we always say, no meal is complete without dessert. We were greeted with Summer Berries with desert lime, macadamia and mint. We’d never say this about a dessert, but if you’re looking for light and healthy, this is it. The sweetness of the berries is balanced by the zest from the lime. The mint gives the dish aroma while the macadamia adds a crunchy element.
