Giovanni Ristorante Pizzeria

When it comes to authentic Italian cuisine up in Mount Barker, you can’t look past Giovanni Ristorante Pizzeria. After being open for many decades, they have become an Adelaide Hills institution. At the time of writing, there were 24 pizzas on the menu which are available in four different sizes (small 9 inch, large 12 inch, family 15 inch, party 18 inch). If you’re not feeling like pizza, they also have a good selection of pastas and salads to choose from.

We started with Surpreme Pizza. The first things we noticed were the freshness of the ingredients and the generous amount of toppings added. Many cheap pizza places use the mass produced processed ham, but not at Giovanni’s. The saltiness from the salami and bacon were balanced by the natural sweetness of the pineapple, onion and capsicum. The pizza base is a classic pan style, and had a nice thick consistency throughout. No one leaves hungry after having pizza here!

Next was the classic Spaghetti Bolognese. The spaghetti was al dente, and the slow cooked beef and pork mince sauce was something Nonna would have been proud of.

Over the many years, Giovanni has become an iconic destination for hill’s locals and diners from further afield. It’s not just about great food, it’s about an exceptional fine dining experience. With friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere, each visit to Giovanni will be a great one.

Giovanni is open from 4pm till late from Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, 12pm till late on Friday and 12pm-9:30pm on Sunday.
