Located on the first floor of the Myer Centre, Jamaica Blue is one of Adelaide’s hidden gems. From the moment you walk in, you’re always greeted by friendly staff and you can’t help but feel at home. The site of the cafe is unique because it’s essentially surrounded by glass, and if you’re fortunate enough to get a seat by a window, it’s easy to watch the world go by. The menu at Jamaica Blue slightly changes every six months and with this iteration, there is an overhaul of the breakfast offerings. Adelaide Food Central was invited to sample the new summer menu with all food and drink being provided free of charge.
The Super Fruit Bowl is the perfect way to start the day. Like all fruit bowls, they’re bright and colourful, and just waiting for you to dig in. The natural sweetness of the strawberries, banana and cranberries was balanced by the sourness of the yoghurt. The coconut and seeds added a nice crunchy texture. It’s delicious and it’s healthy. You’ll feel great after you’ve had one.
The Fruit and Nut Loaf was a real surprise. Visually, it may not look very exciting, and by itself, it is what it is. When combined with the amazing coffee butter, it’s almost life changing. The coffee butter is like icing with a hint of coffee. It’s so good they should put it on everything!
The Haloumi and Avocado Breakfast Roll will tantalise your taste buds. The thin slices of freshly grilled haloumi were slightly salty, and balanced by the sweetness of the caramelised onion. The avocado was smooth and creamy, while the rocket had a lovely crispy texture. The garlic aioli prevents the roll from being too dry and really brings all the elements together.
The Sourdough Crumpets was served with avocado, scrambled eggs, pesto and pine nuts. The avocado was smooth and creamy, and really worked well with the light and fluffy scrambled eggs. The pesto and pine nuts is a tried and true combination, and added good depth to the dish.
The Lemon Cottage Cheese, Avocado and Dukkah on Toast with Smoked Salmon was simple and delicious. The cottage cheese was smooth and creamy, and subtly tart. It’s texture was complemented by both the avocado and smoked salmon.
There’s nothing like a sweet and savoury dish to end the meal, so we went with the French Toast with bacon and maple syrup. We’ve never seen such perfectly formed pieces of French toast! They were light and fluffy, and incredibly addictive. The saltiness from the crispy bacon was balanced by the sweetness of the maple syrup. Absolutely divine!
Jamaica Blue Myer Centre is world class, especially when it comes to Jamaica Blue stores. Having recently been named the best Jamaica Blue store in the world, that certainly speaks volumes as to how good this specific store is. As for the new summer menu, it’s delicious and there’s something for everyone. Grab a coffee and stay for a meal. You’ll be glad that you did!
