Thai Chef – Revisit 2

One of my favourite Thai restaurants in Adelaide is Thai Chef. Located down the southern end of Pulteney Street, it’s a bit out of the way from everything else but because of that, the location is quieter and it’s easier to get a park. I’ve already been to this restaurant on three different occasions so I’m not going to repeat myself. Instead, I’ll get straight into the food.

a01

First up was the Black Pepper Grilled Pork Skewers. The pork belly was well marinated and was grilled till it was nice and crisp. The high sugar content in the marinade made it more charred around the edges, and the sweetness of the dish reminded me of something Mum makes at home.

Next was the Seafood Black Pepper Noodles. Mixed in the perfectly cooked noodles were generous amounts of juicy and succulent mussels, prawns and squid. The vegetables in the dish were carrot, broccoli and baby corn, all of which were firm and yet soft. The dish was swimming in a black pepper sauce which combined all the ingredients well.

Accompanying the main was the Crispy Duck with cashew nuts in plum sauce. The duck was tender and succulent, and the skin was nice and crispy. The crunchiness of the cashew nuts complimented that of the skin, and the sweet plum sauce added a contrast in flavour.

I’ve been to this restaurant on 4 different occasions and I’ve never had a bad experience. The chef that does the cooking is a master of his craft and has trained the chefs at many of the Thai restaurants in Adelaide. He’s cooks with a passion and it shows in all of his dishes. Combine with this with the great service and relaxed environment, and you have yourself one of the best Thai restaurants in Adelaide.

I can’t recommend this place enough.

Hi, I’m so glad to see this post, having moved recently from Sydney where I was spoiled rotten on cheap but authentic Thai “hole in the wall” cafes, my frustration at trying to find somewhere, anywhere, in Adelaide that serves something I would try twice is growing, this could well be the place Yay!
