Nana’s Kitchen Table is located just outside the Mitcham Square Shopping Centre in a beautifully renovated historic building. They have a reasonably sized all day breakfast menu which is based on seasonal produce and locally sourced ingredients. The lunch menu is smaller and is available from 12pm.
For breakfast, I ordered the Clare Valley poached eggs, roasted butternut pumpkin, cherry tomatoes, Danish feta, grilled kale and pumpkin seeds on rye toast. The dish came out after a 15 minute wait and was nicely presented. The poached eggs had a nice runny yolk, however some of the egg whites were still runny. The grilled kale was leafy and bitter, and slightly burnt around the edges. This was balanced by the natural sweetness of the cherry tomatoes and butternut pumpkin. The Danish feta was mild and creamy with a subtle saltiness, the pumpkin seeds add a nice crunchy texture. A light and refreshing dish that was let down by the eggs.
The staff were friendly and the service was good. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing fairly average with the cost of breakfast setting me back $16. The dish I had was colourful, delicious and refreshing, and I’m also pleased to say that the latte I had was on point.
Nana’s Kitchen Table is a great addition to the Mitcham area and a place definitely worth checking out.
