Yum Rolls is a small Vietnamese eatery located within a shopping complex on Marion Road in West Richmond. Like most Vietnamese street food stores, this place offers 10 types of meat rolls, a selection of entrees, salad bowls and noodle salad bowls. The place is not particularly large, but there are a handful of seats should you choose to dine in.
For lunch, I ordered the Crackling Roast Pork Meat Roll. The meat roll is freshly assembled on the spot and layered with a generous serving of home made butter. I didn’t see any pate applied so there were already alarm bells ringing in my head. The roast pork was well marinated, and the meat was tender and succulent. There were good portions of crispy skin and meat. The pickled carrot was sweet and tangy, as was the inclusion of red onion. The coriander was fresh and the cucumber added a nice crunchy texture. They didn’t use fresh chilli but a chilli paste instead. Not conventional but still effective. The bread roll was nice and crusty, which is just the way it should be. It was delicious and ticked most of the boxes when it comes to authenticity.
The staff were friendly and the service was fast and efficient. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing reasonable. The cost of the bread roll was $5.50 which is cheaper than normal. Having said that, they are out in the suburbs. I’ve had many Vietnamese Roast Pork Rolls in my time and this one was better than average.
