The Federal Restaurant and Bar is located inside the Mercure Grosvenor Hotel on North Terrace. Designed as a place for all occasions, it’s a perfect place for guests staying in the hotel or executives who want a long lunch. The menu reminds me of your typical pub fare with starters, mains, grilled meats and dessert.

For lunch, I ordered the Smoked Salmon which was served with capers, red onion, lime aioli, rocket and toasted Turkish bread. The salmon was provided in generous amounts, and the vegetables that went with it are a tried and true combination. It was delicious.

The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed. We all ordered a small starter with the most expensive being $12. They were indeed small but ideal for the situation we were in. For once, I ordered the best dish out of the group and was quite content with my meal.

It’s probably not fair to judge a place based on it’s starters, but for what we got as a whole, the group thought the food was average.
