In our fast paced society, there’s a need for healthy food options when you’re on the run. That’s where Jack Greens comes in with a selection of healthy salad bowls, grains, soups and coffee. The vegetables have no preservatives, and the proteins are hormone and antibiotic free. All the produce is sourced from regional South Australia which is great for the local economy.
The decor is modern and stylish with a large counter area running down one side of the room. The green wall garden is a great talking point and complements their offerings. There are a few dozen seats on the inside and a few more out on the pavement. Located on a nice corner position, this place gets a fair amount of natural light during the day.
For lunch, I had the Downtown Waldorf Salad which contains roast chicken, baby spinach, cos lettuce, cabbage, carrot, red onion, red grapes, apple, celery, candied walnuts and a dijon mayonnaise dressing. The salad is made fresh at the time of ordering, mixed and then placed in a biodegradable take away container. The presentation doesn’t end up being too good but as the target market is for people on the run, it’s not really a factor.
The salad itself is quite delicious. The morsels of chicken are tender and succulent, and the cabbage, carrot, apple and celery provide a nice crunchy texture. The grapes and apple provide natural sweetness, although, I thought the candied walnuts took some getting used to. The candied walnuts are sticky and chewy, and something you’d see in a dessert. The ingredients were fresh and the salad was tasty.
The staff were friendly and the service was good. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing is fair. The cost of the salad was $9.90 which was good value considering the quality of the ingredients and portion size. It does go all the way up to $14.90 which is getting to close to what you’d pay at a cafe.
Eateries serving healthy food options are all the trend at the moment which should see this place do well.
