Nordburger – Hindmarsh

Just like many other well known established burger joints, Nordburger, has opened up another store out west close to the Entertainment Centre and The Gov. If you’ve been to the Norwood store you’ll find similar offerings with 7 beef hamburgers and fried chicken options. To the right of the main counter is the dessert section with soft serves, milkshakes, sundaes and rumbles on offer.

The Hindmarsh store is a lot larger than the one in Norwood. One of the main features is the long concrete benchtop which matches the polished cement flooring. The high ceilings give a sense of space, and the white tiles with dark grout are typical of modern trendy establishments. Seating is a combination of bar stools, booths, normal stools and bench seating.

For lunch, I ordered the Big Kahuna Burger which contains fresh ground beef, bacon, grilled pineapple, American cheese, lettuce, mustard, ketchup and Nord sauce. The burger came out 15 minutes after ordering and was average in presentation. For a burger that describes itself as “big”, I thought it was average in size. I wasn’t impressed by the fact that the bun was unevenly sliced with the base being thinner than the top half.

The ground beef patty was well marinated and juicy, but it was a little on the thin side and it wasn’t as well refined as I would have expected. There’s nothing worse than biting on bits of fat in your burger. The American cheese was nicely melted over the beef and I liked the way it slowly dripped down the sides. The saltiness of the crisp bacon was well balanced by the sweetness of the pineapple, although I think they went a little overboard on the sauces. The bun was fresh and firm, but because of the way it was cut, it didn’t hold all the ingredients in too well.

The staff were friendly and the service was fast and efficient. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing is on par with other specialist burger joints. The Big Kahuna Burger was average in my opinion. I should have been less adventurous and stuck with favourites like the Bacon Double.

It did just open today so it’s only natural there’d be teething problems.
