At the location that was once a small Korean cafe is the cool new Trouble and Strife. There are seven gourmet breakfast and brunch options that are written on paper hanging off the wall. Classic dishes that caught my eye were the Smoked Salmon, Smashed Avocado and Peas, and the Rare Roast Beef. All decent options but only one stomach to fit them in!
The decor is very casual with the interesting use of chalkboards around the side counter areas. There is a communal bench as you walk in and normal seating down the side and out at the front of the cafe. The dining space and counter area isn’t too deep as you get a good amount of natural light.
For breakfast, I had the Smoked Salmon with Sour Cream on Rye. The rye slices are a little on the thin side but they are smothered with a generous amount of sour cream. The smoked salmon is smooth and silky, and the raw radish adds a lovely crunchy texture. The classic flavour combination is executed perfectly in this dish.
The staff were friendly and the service was good. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing was very reasonable. The cost of breakfast was $12 and I know for a fact that it would be close to $20 anywhere else. All their other dishes range from $8 to $12 which is basically unheard of in the Goodwood area. The serving size was decent and you could tell quality ingredients were used.
This place is very popular amongst locals and it’s not hard to see why. I know where I’ll be coming for breakfast if I’m in the area.
