Biga Cafe

Biga is a cafe and bar located on the popular Hutt Street cafe precinct. Serving an all day breakfast menu from 7am to 3pm, the offerings are good with light and classic dishes, croissants, toasted sandwiches, toasties and omelettes. Lunch goes from 11:30am to 3pm and offers mains, burgers, salads, wraps and bruschetta.

The decor is modern and stylish with a nice open bar area and low hanging light fittings. There are a fair number of seats inside but the majority is located outside on its dual frontage.

For lunch, I had the Biga Beef Burger which came out 15 minutes after ordering and was nicely presented. The beef patty was well marinated, tender and succulent with nice smokey chargrilled flavours, but it was a little on the thin side. The cheddar cheese was nicely melted over the patty, and the cucumber, which I don’t normally find in a burger, added a nice crunchy texture. The lettuce was fresh and crisp, and the tomato, ripe and juicy. The bacon was fried until crisp, which is just the way I like it. I suspect the saltiness of the bacon was supposed to be balanced by the chilli mango dressing, however, the burger was more salty than anything else.

The chips provided were a thin cut variety. They were fried until crisp and adequately salted.

Set on the popular Hutt Street cafe precinct, the cafe is just a great place to relax, particularly when you have nothing else to do. The pricing is fairly average for a cafe with the burger setting me back $14.90. While the burger was surprisingly filling, I thought the beef patty was too thin and the burger itself was too salty.
